Still stuck with Elongated stars.

Tonight here is what I did to try to fix the elongated stars in my images following the changes I’ve made on my setup:

  1. Tightened the Guider focuser tension screw
  2. Made sure everything was well screwed and solid
  3. Re-leveled the Pier
  4. 3 stars alignment with the CGEM
  5. Polar alignment with the CGEM software
  6. Lauched PHD Guiding with very good guiding results (i.e. OSC: 0.4, RMS: 0.3)
  7. Took a four minute test shot…here is the result…
  8. Next steps: revert back to the piggy-back configuration. More to come.

You can call me Frank. I've been an amateur astronomer since 1988. In 2004, I purchased my first astrophotography equipment. In 2008, I built my own observatory. I cannot count the number of hours I have spent building, learning and trying. It as been a humbling experience that I hope will continue for a lifetime.
